This beautifully made engraved Smith & Wesson .38 Single Action Second Model Revolver was made in the 1880s. It has a two line company address and patent dates on the top of the barrel and matching numbers on the cylinder and butt. 3-1/4″ barrel with half-moon front sight and v-notch rear sight.

The finish has been reapplied with a silver coating. Trigger, hammer, cylinder star, front sight and some screws are blued. Period floral engraving covers 95% of the surface. The engraving is punch-dot background and the details of the flowers are very nice. Mother-of-pearl grips are period correct and in excellent condition.

Metal has 85% of the reapplied silver finish. Some tarnishing and dullness. Pitting under the finish on the cylinder face and around the muzzle is normal for a gun of this age. Cylinder latch is a replacement and some screws are also replaced. Bore is good with a frosted surface and some pitting but the rifling is still defined. Hammer is tight and cylinder has some side to side play but functions.
