Manufactured circa 1885. Solid barrel rib marked “HOLLAND & HOLLAND 98 NEW BOND STREET LONDON” and “WINNER OF ALL THE ‘FIELD’/RIFLE TRIALS, LONDON.” This was most likely part of a two gun set with a “2” marked on the barrel, forearm and lever. Matching serials on the trigger guard, water tables, both SXS barrels and forearm. “Crown/V” proofs on the water table. No nitro proofs on the water table or barrel. 26″ barrels have a blade front sight and three part express style rear. External flip down safeties. Barrels are blued, having been restored at some point. Case colored frame and lever with fine factory engraving and “HOLLAND & HOLLAND” on both sides. Trigger guard is blued and factory engraved. Tang safety and double triggers. Oiled wood stock and forearm were professionally redone. Fine cut checkering and right hand shooter check piece. Capped pistol grip with gold inlay plate on the toe line. Added red rubber butt pad. LOP: 14-1/4″ to the end of the pad. 13-1/4″ to the end of the wood. CONDITION: Fine with about 70% of the finish on the barrel remaining. Frame and side plates have about 40% case color visible. Wood is excellent with a few handling marks. Bore has a frosted surface. Good overall rifling. Tight lockup and action. CALIBER: .38 CAL Straight Wall. FFL STATUS: Antique. S/N: 7782.
